Biography & Career
Josh started Playing drums when he was 16 years old. During his High School years he toured around the east coast of Australia with his first band ‘39 Short’, releasing independent CDs and playing festivals alongside such bands as - Dropkick Murphy’s, Toe to Toe, Mindsnare and Throwdown (Aus).
’39 Short’ eventually disbanded and Josh went on to form successful hardcore band ‘Mourning Tide’. 'Mourning Tide' toured and shared stages with bands such as - Strung Out, Mindsnare, Parkway Drive, The Amity Affliction, I Killed The Prom Queen, Cro Mags, Soil Work, Throwdown (USA), Devolved, Blood duster, A Secret Death, Day Of Contempt, Miles Away, Embodiment 12:14 and American Nightmare to name a few. Mourning Tide’s first release was recorded by Dave Neil (Butterfly Effect, Small Mercies, The Amity Affliction) at Modern Music Studios in Brisbane and was released through Modern Music Records which also had Sony Distribution. In the first week of sales we cracked the national top 20 Alternate ARIA charts and beating out Metallica to have the number 1 selling EP in Brisbane’s top alternative record store ‘Rocking Horse’.
Other projects that Josh has worked on include, session playing for Rock Band ‘Verusive’ and recording their debut E.P (which he co wrote) at the legendary 301 Studios in Byron Bay. Here Josh was privileged to work under the engineering and production guidance of Paul Pilsnenicks (Silverchair, Alanis Morrisette, The Mars Volta, Powderfinger, Pete Murray and The Living End). Other artists included on the E.P were Omar Hanlon (Stan Walker, Ricki Lee) Corey De luka (Jimmy Barnes, The Whitlam’s and Tina Arena) and Vocals by Clare Nella (Dj Clariti).
Not long after finishing the ‘Verusive’ E.P Josh was back at 301 recording with Byron Hardcore band ‘Satellite Years’ featuring members from notable defunct hardcore bands In Ashes We lie - Vices for Virtues - Mourning Tide and Avenge The Dead.
This time the band had Jordan Power at the helm (U2, The Living End, Angus Stone). ‘Satellite Years’ released a CD on Set Fire Records which was mixed and mastered in the USA by hardcore heavy weight Jay Maas (Defeater, Title Fight, H20, Polar Bear Club). This CD was well received and garnered press coverage in ‘Time OFF’ and ‘Blunt’ magazines. ‘Satellite Years’ played shows alongside - The Bride, Aversions Crown, Wish for Wings, Driven Fear, Promises, The Matador Widow the Sea and Train Wreck.
Other projects that Josh continues to work on include the band ‘In Ashes’. ‘In Ashes’ have shared the stage and festival line ups with national and international acts such as - The Amity Affliction, Misery Signals, Adept, Northlane, I Killed the Prom Queen, Unwritten Law, Aversions Crown, The Bennies, King Parrot, The Wrath, Alpha Wolf, Arteries and Driven Fear.
’In Ashes’ released their highly anticipated self released debut album ‘Breathe Hope’ which was produced by Nik Carpenter (Devolved, Aversions Crown) and mixed by Jonny Renshaw (Blood Youth, Devil Sold His Soul) at Bandit Studios in the UK. The album was mastered by Alan Douches (Every Time I Die, Darkest Hour) at West Side Music, New York.
‘Breathe Hope’ has received an amazing response, debuting at #4 on the iTunes Metal Charts and #38 on the overall iTunes charts. "In Ashes nail it on their cinematic debut" (Hysteria magazine)
Other genre crossing session work that Josh is working on includes interstate touring, festivals, clubs and recording with various bands/artists.
This work includes live work with National/International Folk Artists Taye Oskee and Folk/funk artist’s Dusty Boots and Adam Harpaz. Recording work for National/International artist Matt Boylan-Smith with Jeff Martin from The Tea Party. Live work with Pop Punk Band Skies Collide and country artists Dane Sharp and Adi Burgess. Live and recording work with Roots and blues artist Thor Phillips.
